How I Found a School That Works for Me

Ellie reflecting on her student experience at Pathways In Education-Arizona’s grand opening event for their new center in Mesa, Arizona.

When Ellie Ramirez began her high school journey, she never imagined it would take more than one try to find the right fit. But like many students, she discovered that the traditional path wasn’t built for how she learns best.

“I went to a public school for about a year and a half,” Ellie recalls. “But I realized I needed more one-on-one time with a teacher to help me get caught up.”

Determined to stay on track, Ellie enrolled in an online school. While it offered flexibility, she quickly discovered another challenge: disconnection.

“I had a hard time focusing on the work,” she explains. “I started distancing myself from others since I was home all the time. My mom couldn’t figure out what was going on or how to help me.”

That’s when family stepped in.

Ellie’s cousins, Abby and Connie—both graduates from Pathways In Education’s Phoenix campus—knew exactly what she needed: a supportive, flexible environment that prioritized student success. They encouraged Ellie to try Pathways, and the difference was immediate.

“It’s been working out perfectly,” Ellie says. “They always work around my schedule. I’m able to work and complete my homework at home.”

But for Ellie, it wasn’t just about academics. It was about belonging.

“When I walk into Pathways, everyone greets me with smiling faces. It really feels like a second home.”
